The names of those two designs were inspired by the nuclear war that surrounds them, though the latter caused the bigger buzz: it was launched four days after the United States began testing the atomic bomb at Bikini Atoll. Maybe it was just a marketing ploy, so Réard gave his creation the name of bikini, implying that it was as significant as the atom bomb.
