Last time we have collect some most cared questions for air track utilization. Today we will continue this topic.
The standard thickness for air track mat is 4 inches. You can also get 8 - and 12-inch air tracks. The thicker the air trajectory, the bigger the bounce.
Most gymnasts will choose 4 inches thick because it most resembles a gymnastics floor on which they are used to practicing.
If you want to use the mat for other sports or just for fun, you can opt for an 8-inch thick mat.
The 12 "thickness is usually reserved for power cups. If you're going to use air rails at home and you're not a super advanced gymnast or don't do glasses, I wouldn't go for 8 or 12 inches thick.
When performing moves on an air track, high bounces pose more risk. If you make a mistake or fall sideways, you could hit a nearby object or land on the hard ground and get hurt.
Where can I use air tracks
Air tracks can be used for concrete, carpet, grass, sand, water and snow. Before performing any manoeuvring on an air track, make sure you have enough space around you.
If you are using on hard surfaces such as concrete or cement, it is recommended that you place regular exercise MATS around the air track.
Another tip is to put a tarp or blanket under the air track before using it. This will give you an extra layer of protection from pointy rocks and sticks. If you plan to use air tracks on water and snow, be sure to use extra precautions on slippery air tracks. If you're going to jump out of an air orbit, make sure there's enough water underneath you.
