Dribbling and breaking is an important part of the Level 4 football teaching unit and is the most widely used technique in football. The author uses the air track mat in the classroom to stimulate students' interest in learning and to break through the important and difficult points of teaching.

When we fold up the air track mat, each player will have a direction to "break" when training.

Exercise 1

Fold the air track mat in half and place it flat on the ground in a diamond shape, the practitioner stands at either apex and plucks the ball to the right with the outside of the back of the right foot along the edge of the air track mat, while the body starts to control the ball quickly.

Purpose of the exercise: The circular plucking exercises on the rhombus mat will help students to strengthen the plucking action on the outside of the back of the foot, enhance ball movement and make the action more standard, but also allow students to clarify the direction of the breakthrough and gradually master the dribbling change of direction breakthrough technique.

Exercise 2

Face each other in groups of two, stand at the two vertices of the diamond-shaped gymnastics mat, take quick little steps in place and paddle the ball with the outside of the back of the foot to the right front on command. After practising a few groups collectively, let the students shout the password to each other and practise independently. During the exercise, ask the students to pay attention to the movements of their peers and compare their speed of starting with each other.

Purpose of the exercise: The process of practising in pairs is actually a process of student cooperation. When students observe each other, they can see whether their partner's movements are correct and also solve the problem of often looking down at the ball during the paddling process, killing two birds with one stone. The comparative start speed exercise is a good way to help students appreciate the change in body weight at the moment of the break and to help them develop an awareness of the need to accelerate after the break. However, when doing this exercise it is important to remind students not to neglect the quality of the change of direction for the sake of speed.
