Again, we don’t recommend that you try to cut your own wig. However, if you are naturally a daring sort, or if you have successfully trimmed wigs (or your natural hair) in the past, we have some tips and tricks to help you.
The fewer alterations your human hair wigs needs, the better. This is especially true if you're cutting your own wig. Start with a wig that already meets the criteria and make minor alterations such as trimming the fringe, thinning the volume, or adding light layers around the face.
Use good quality scissors
To get a clean cut, always use sharp hairdressing scissors. However, remember that the plastic fibers of synthetic hair can wear down blades faster than natural hair.
Place the wig on a wig stand while cutting the back
While you may be tempted to cut your wig while it is on, you will get more accurate results if you put it on a wig stand while cutting the back.
Place the wig on your head while cutting the front
When you are cutting the top layer or trimming the fringe, place the wig on your head as you would normally wear it. This way, you can measure the fall of your hair around your temples, forehead and chin to perfectly
contour your face.
Part your hair according to the style you want to wear
If your wig has a hand-tied or mono filament top, be sure to part your hair according to the style you intend to wear before cutting it. This will ensure a flat final look after the wig has been set.
